Company of Heroes Review: Missions and Maps

The first mission of the option Campaign th Invasion of Normand. The invasion begins in Omaha beach, June 6th 1944 and this day is famous D-Day. The attackers must neutralize all german strongholds in this area. There are 16 kinds of medals, like Parachutist Badge, Bronze Star, Army Expert Badge and they will be present to the victors for special merits and a courage in the battle field. There is a large number of well directed and gorgeous cinematics that really add to the realism of the game.

Most movie sequences are rendered in real-time with the game's graphics engine and are well connected to the current stage of the battle.

After the victory it's time for the second mission. It's called Vierville – St. Come du Mont road. named after the village where the battle took place. After the American and British soldiers are went up the treacherous cliffs of Omaha beach, they have to march to the next target: blocking major roadways and preventing the enemy counterattack. The success on D-Day depends entirely on these paratroopers. They under an order to secure a vital road linking Omaha beach and the town of Viervill.

The soldiers dialogs are very good albeit short (which is more than likely in such situations). Often can be heard phrases like: "Yes, sir!", "Keep it steady!", "Listen up, people!", "Airborne ready!", "Enemy unit down!" and so on. The music is thematic and changed with the action.

To summarize, th campaign mode offers well-made missions with nice screenplay. In skirmish mode, you can choose between 15 maps. You can take the side of allies or the germans and there are two available win conditions: Victory point control and Annihilate.

One of the more interesting maps is Sturzdorf, which is for 2 opponets. This industrial complex is primary supplier of 88mm guns of the famous german Tiger tanks. The tanks are most powerful weapon both against infantry and buildings.
